The annual OTC Pre’s Trail X-Country Challenge takes place on Friday, August 24, 2012 on the Prefontaine Memorial Trail in Alton Baker Park. The Pre’s Trail X-Country Challenge will feature both individual and team entries in races for all ages, complete with hay bale obstacles and great scenery. It is being moved up from October to August to provide a fun training opportunity prior to the fall cross country season.

Affectionately known as Pre’s Trail, this four mileribbon of bark was created to honor the late Steve Prefontaine and provides a
training and competition path for area high school and UO Track & Field runners, OTC Elite athletes, running clubs and community members at large.

“Heavy use and high esteem for Pre’s Trail make it a very special community asset, and also means that regular trail maintenance is critical. We hope to generate much-needed funds to help in our ongoing Trail work,” said Bill Kelly, current president of the Oregon Track Club.

As added incentive this year, over $1500 worth of prizes will be awarded this year via random drawings and to
age group and team winners.   The City of Eugene, which partners with OTC to maintain Pre's Trail, has donated concert tickets for Crosby, Stills, & Nash and Day Glow from the Cultural Services Division and swim passes from the Recreation Division. Some of the other prizes include Eugene Marathon entries provided by the Eugene Marathon, entries for Oregon Track Club’s Butte to Butte and the OTC Masters 10 Miler, tickets to the Prefontaine Classic and Pre's Trail hats and shirts.

Race Schedule
6:00pm - 3K Youth Race (ages 12 & under only)
6:40pm - 6K Open/High School Race (all ages)
6:45pm - 5K Masters & Seniors Race (40 & Over)

Entry Fees (For all events)
$20 - All races, ages 19 & over, $10 ages 18 and under. Oregon Track Club members receive a $5 discount.  Add $5 to all prices on race day.  All proceeds will support Pre’s Trail maintenance.
