Ten runners from the University of Oregon broke the 4-minute mile barrier
under the tutelage of iconic track and field coach Bill Bowerman from 1956 to
1970 – and each of them has a fascinating story to tell.
On Friday, May 27, we’ll celebrate the accomplishments of those athletes at
the inaugural Sub 4 Reunion, a fund-raiser for the Oregon Track Club to be
held at the Jaqua Center from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Tickets are $25 for the public, $20 for OTC members, and free to attendees
that have ever run a sub-4:00 mile. UO catering will provide appetizers and
Hop Valley Brewing Company will debut a Sub 4 Ale, brewed in honor of this
special occasion.
The social hour begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by a panel discussion with all 10
athletes at 6:30 p.m. Oregon Track Club Elite teammates Andrew Wheating
and Tom Farrell will serve as emcees.
The event concludes at 7:30 p.m. when everyone can make the short walk to
Hayward Field to watch all of the free events on the first night of the 42 nd
annual Prefontaine Classic.
