UO FOOTBALL COACH HEADLINES TRACKTOWN TUESDAY

Mario Cristobal, the head coach of the University of Oregon football program, will highlight the next TrackTown Tuesday on March 5 at the Downtown Athletic Club.

The show will also feature Oregon Track Club Elite newcomer Sabrina Southerland. In addition, Oregon track and field assistant coach Seth Henson will appear onstage with multi-event athletes Max Vollmer and Keira McCarrell.

Cristobal was named head coach of the Duck football team in December 2017. He had been Oregon’s co-offensive coordinator, run-game coordinator and offensive line coach during the 2017 season. His coaching is informed by his experience as a player – he was a four-year letter-winner at the University of Miami, where he played offensive tackle.

Southerland, a graduate of Georgetown University, competed for the Ducks during her final year of collegiate eligibility. She won the 800m at the 2018 NCAA Indoor Championships. Southerland is in her first year as a professional athlete and owns a personal best of 2:00.72 in the 800m.

The UO men’s and women’s track and field teams are gearing up for the NCAA Indoor Championships, which will take place March 8–9 in Birmingham, Ala. We’ll use this opportunity to introduce Seth Henson, an assistant coach who joined the program in July 2017. Henson works with the Duck pole vaulters, high jumpers, and multi-event athletes.

Two of those student-athletes will be spotlighted alongside Henson. Freshman Vollmer is a decathlete hailing from Germany who finished fifth at the 2017 European Athletics U20 Championships with a personal best of 7,713 points. McCarrell is a sophomore who qualified for the 2018 NCAA Championships in the javelin. She is expanding her focus to include the heptathlon during the 2019 season.

UO Associate Athletic Director Vin Lananna will welcome the crowd and Sasha Spencer Atwood, Director of External Affairs at TrackTown USA, will serve as emcee.

The popular town hall meetings are free and open to the public. Doors open at 6 p.m. for a social hour, followed by the one-hour show at 7 p.m.

As always, $5 appetizers from the DAC and $3 pints of beer from Hop Valley Brewing Company will be available for purchase. Free parking is available in the adjacent Overpark.
